Governance Subcommittee
Governance's primary responsibility is oversight of the USAC Bylaws. Governance reviews the existing bylaws, recommends and discusses proposed changes, writes amendments for consideration, and interprets the bylaws as necessary.
Governance also appoints current and former USAC members to various university committees and Senate committees. Members of these committees are required to submit meeting reports which Governance reviews, follow up with the member if there are questions, and disseminate the reports to USAC members.
2007 - 2008 Goals
1. To increase awareness and power of staff participation on University
committees.
a. By establishing a stronger presence of USAC representation at University
Senate meetings:
i. Explore University policymaking by contacting Chris Zacker’s group
for an informational session.
ii. Invite a conversation with present Senate Committee representatives
to glean their perspectives.
b. By soliciting accomplishments and impacts made by External Committee
assignments.
c. By exploring the possibility of USAC hosting an External Committee
meeting with fiscal resources (e.g. OSCHE, CIC-APSC).
2. To facilitate process improvements within USAC so that meetings are run efficiently and policies are clear among members:
a. By building in the capacity for conducting virtual ad hoc meetings in case of emergency or important issues that must be acted upon by the
USAC Executive Committee or Governance Subcommittee (e.g. Skype, WebEX, GoToMeeting).
b. By determining frequency of bylaw review.
c. By amending bylaws, if necessary, clarifying attendance policy.
d. By introducing the option of e-voting for next year’s USAC officer elections.
e. By displaying the governance scoring rubrics on the USAC website, prior to the solicitation of USAC Officers and External Committee nominations.
