SCBS Subcommittee

The Staff Compensation and Benefits Subcommittee (SCBS) is charged with the preparation and presentation of the annual USAC Staff Compensation and Benefits Report to senior administrative leadership of The Ohio State University. Additionally, SCBS functions as the link between USAC and the Office of Human Resources to discuss relevant topics, issues, and initiatives.

Beginning in August and continuing through May, the subcommittee meets frequently (both online and in person) to review, discuss, and critically analyze the issues and concerns of university staff. Data is gathered from staff through recent surveys, previous SCBS reports, and meetings with staff councils and regional campus staff representatives.

In summary, the issues and concerns of staff are compiled to produce substantive and realistic recommendations for enhancements, additions, and/or changes to staff benefit packages.

Our meetings culminate in the Staff Compensation and Benefits Report that is presented to the President, Provost, and other university administrative leadership. This occurs in February of each year. Some of the subcommittee's successes include the following:

  1. Dependent Fee Authorization: Recently agreed to a 75% authorization for OSU dual-career couples.
  2. Domestic Partnerships: Benefit programs and ability to use of sick leave for illness of domestic partners.
  3. Adoption Assistance Program.

2009 - 2010 Goals

  1. Find ways to create new and improved methods of communication between staff and senior administrative leadership.
  2. Work collaboratively with Outreach subcommittee to engage and involve Columbus and regional campus staff as we focus on existing as ONE University.
  3. Objectively measure and evaluate progress made by the Office of Human Resources and senior administrative leadership with regard to the Staff Talent Plan.
