The University Staff Advisory Committee hosted their annual retreat at the Fawcett Center on July 12, 2017. The aim of the retreat was to give members the time to engage in dialogue specific to ideas and goals the committee would set for the year. The retreat also allows members time to interact with one another in a more informal setting and to welcome the newest members of the committee.
To recap the day, the morning allotted time for the committee to get to know each other through an icebreaker activity. To follow the committee invited Dyan Ellinger, to join as a facilitator for a World Cafe style discussion around advocacy for staff and what the committee would like to change about the staff experience at Ohio State.
After lunch, the committee’s chair Liz Gordon-Canlas reviewed SMART Goals and how they should be implemented while determining the goals the sub-committee’s set for themselves for the 2017-2018 term. To end the day, the committee organized a 4-person panel of previous USAC chairs and members for a Q&A session and words of wisdom on how to navigate the year ahead. Overall, the retreat was a success. It fueled the energy and motivation for the committee’s advocacy work for the 2017-2018 year.
